The Government of India has made available Electronic Visa or e-Visa for the citizens of several countries such as the France and the U.S. More details about it are available on our website, https://indiaevisa.in, which has been made for this purpose solely.
Who Can Apply For an Indian e-Visa?
International travellers who want to visit India for the following purposes can apply for the Indian e-Visa:
- Recreation, travelling, casual visit to relatives or friends, attending a short term yoga program
- Seeking medical treatment from Indian medical facilities
- Attending a Medical Visa holder
- Business purposes
- Attending a seminar/workshop/ conference that is organized by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments or UT Administrations etc.
No other purposes of visit are eligible for the Indian e-Visa.
Types of e-Visa
Indian Visa Online is of 5 main types, which are:
- e-Tourist Visa (30 days/1 year/5 years)
- e-Business Visa
- e-Medical Visa
- e-Medical Attendant Visa (Only two allowed against one e-Medical Visa)
- e-Conference Visa
Club Activities Under Indian e-Visa
Any traveller with a valid e-Visa (other than e-Conference Visa) is allowed to participate in club activities. Those applying for an e-Conference Visa would be allowed in club activities as permitted under an e-Tourist Visa only (validity same as an e-Conference Visa only, that is 30 days).
When To Apply For Indian e-Visa?
Applicants desiring to obtain an e-Tourist or e-Business Visa must apply at least 4 days before the date of travel.
Those applying for e-Medical / e-Medical Attendant Visa or e-Conference Visa should also apply 4 days before the date of travel, although they would be provided with a 120-day arrival window.
For instance, if you apply on 1st September 2022, then you can select an arrival date in India from 5th September 2022 to 2nd Jan 2023.
Document Requirements Needed For e-Visa Application
The applicant must mandatorily upload a recent front-facing photograph (passport-style) and an image of the first page of their passport that shows personal details like the name, DOB, nationality, expiry date and so on.
One may have to upload additional documents as well, depending on the kind of e-Visa they are applying for.
The applicants from Yellow Fever affected countries should possess a yellow fever vaccination card. Failure to show the same might result in 6 days of isolation once they arrive in India.
If the documents are not as per the specifications or are blurry, the application is likely to be rejected.
Fees For Indian e-Visa
Bank charges of 2.5% would be charged additionally on the specified e-Visa application fees. The applicant has to pay at least 4 days before their date of travel for the successful processing of the application.
The e-Visa fee is non-refundable and being specifically for the processing of the application, is not subjected to the final decision (granted/rejected) of the Electronic Travel Authority or ETA.
Before beginning your journey, make sure that your “ETA status” is shown as “GRANTED” on our website.
Biometric Details and e-Visa Restrictions
Every applicant has to provide their biometric details at the Immigration checkpoint upon arriving in India.
The Indian e-Visa is non-extendible, non-convertible and does not allow the holder to visit Protected/Restricted or Cantonment areas. The applicant needs to secure separate permission from the Authorities to visit such areas.
Note on e-Visa Payment
It may take up to 2 hours for the e-Visa application fee payment status update in case of technical/network issues. Applicants are advised to wait at least 2 hours before re-applying after the final submission of the application form and fee payment.
If the applicant finds that their e-Visa fee has been deducted but the status has not been updated yet, they are requested to verify their payment status.
To do that, they have to simply click the ‘Verify Payment/Pay Visa Fee’ tab or by clicking on the link Verify Payment.
Note on e-Visa Passport
The applicant must travel with the passport on which he/she has applied for an Indian e-Visa. They would be allowed in India even if ETA is issued on an old passport, although they must carry both the new and old passports in that case.
Note on e-Visa Documents
The documents required for e-Visa application are specified under each type of e-Visa. Keep these documents ready when filling up your e-Visa application form.
All documents such as business cards, invitation letters and so on must be in the English language or else they can be rejected.
The entire e-Visa application process takes around 10-15 minutes to complete, including making the final payment. Every candidate must fill out their e-Visa application form themselves and take responsibility for the information they provide in each of its columns.

How Long Does It Take for The Approval Of Your Application?

Things to Remember When Visiting India on eVisa
Do Not Overstay
Simply carrying a Visa to India does not work, and one has to respect the laws there. These include staying only until the Visa permits, as there are strict penalties for overstaying.
The Indian Government can take any legal steps to impose such a penalty, and you may face issues during future travels and further Visa applications.
Carry a Printed Copy of Visa
While carrying a valid e-Visa is the same as a printed Visa, we suggest you still carry a physical copy of it. In case the electronic device that contains your Visa malfunctions, this should serve as the alternative.
Make Sure That Travel Document Has Two Blank Pages
The e-Visa online application does not involve stamps and thus you don’t need to have blank pages on your travel document (passport for instance).
However, we would still suggest you have at least 2 blank pages on it to avoid any inconvenience.

Travel Document Should be Valid for At least Half a Year On Date Of Application
